Repeater for use with wireless WeatherLink systems

Description

Increase your wireless transmission considerably by adding a 7654 Davis Instruments Wireless Long-Range Repeater and antennas

For situations where the 300m wireless range is simply not enough, consider the 7654 Long-Range Repeater. When used with Davis Instruments Omni or Yagi antenna, distances between your transmitter and receiver can be increased significantly.

How it works:
  • The long-range repeater receives signals from sensor suites or remote transmitters and boosts the signal to attain longer transmission distances.
  • It requires two antennas: one to receive data from your weather station or transmitter and one to send that data either to the final receiver or to another long-range repeater
  • You can use either Yagi or Omni antennas.
  • Mix and match antenna to suit your situation. The two antenna (receiver-transmitter) could be any of the following configurations:Yagi-Yagi, Omni-Omni, Yagi-Omni or Omni-Yagi
  • Omni antennas transmit or receive in all directions, in a 360 degree radiation pattern
  • Yagi antennas transmit or receive from a single direction but have a longer transmission distance
  • The repeater can ‘listen’ for and pass on up to eight different transmitter signals from eight stations.
Why buy this?
  • If you have thick shelter belts, or other obstacles such as concrete or steel walls that reduce the range of your sensor suite transmitter
  • If you do not have the flexibility about where you site your receiver and you have a specific site you want to monitor (such as a site with a high risk of frost in your orchard) that is outside the usual maximum range of 300m
Notes:
  • Distance does add cost and complexity. We suggest that before buying, spend some time to plan out your system and plot it with topographical features and distances, and give us a call to discuss options. We will do our best to find the cheapest, most reliable option to meet your requirements. Helping our customers find the right solution is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the job
  • This is a niche product for very specific situations. In most cases, we recommend using a 7627 Standard Repeater system
  • Requires two external antenna, which are sold separately
  • If the distance is a factor, it may be worth considering an EnviroMonitor set-up instead, using a cellular 6803 EnviroMonitor Gateway, or the 6805 EnviroMonitor IP Gateway
Transmission range
  • Your transmission range can be affected by a range of site factors, such as antenna height, the terrain and foliage, buildings and other structures, and radio frequency interference, so it can take some experimentation and time spent on the set up to get it right
  • When speaking about transmission range, the maximum distances refer to optimal conditions. Due to minor obstructions and interference, typical distance will likely be about 50-80% of the maximum. If walls, thick shelter belts or high radio frequency interference are factors, range may drop to as low as 20-40% of the maximum
